I made a collective list of places on Google Maps, more on that can be found here.
Ok so truth be told, I’m not quite certain if the One Paseo is just the side of the street where Salt & Straw is or if it includes the area across the street, El Camino Real. Either way, since I’m not local to the immediate area, I call it all the One Paseo.
So what is it? I guess it can be considered as a strip mall, potentially divided by El Camino Real. There are a lot of options and combinations for a Knit Night with bestie or a group of people. This post, is to give you an idea, but feel free to come up with your own and leave suggestions for others in the comments!
Ideas to Consider
Unfortunately, in the post-Covid world, a lot of places end up closing after finding them! While it means more challenges and adventures, it means that you should also make sure the place is open before you go!
The Melt – Del Mar Highlands
Sadly, I didn’t take pictures of the food. I know, I’m a millennial failure. In my defense, Bestie gave me my gifties from Crow & Crescent Yarn CO, so I was a little distracted.
Anyways.. It’s on the second floor, there’s stairs and escalators. The restaurant has its own seating areas with indoor and outdoor options. The burger I ordered was decent but Bestie and I agreed we liked Burger Bench better. Now that doesn’t mean the food was bad, we’re just particular. We would go back, we’re just not adventurous as of late and there is an abundance of options in the area so we’ve been trying new places when we go back to the One Paseo!
Just outside the restaurant is a seating area where you can overlook the water feature below if you sit near the glass. If not, the city view isn’t too bad either! Since it’s in the open and not right up against the restaurants the noise level isn’t too bad, you can hear the fountain and folks walking by. It’s generally not too crowded so there’s plenty of seating options. While admittedly, not the most comfortable if you’re sitting on one of the bench seats by the glass, there are some chairs scattered. Remember, sometimes it’s not about the knitting and more so about the company you keep!

Cross Street Chicken and Beer (Del Mar)
Also upstairs, right next door to The Melt!
The food here was really good — juicy, flavorful chicken paired perfectly with a refreshing selection of beers. The atmosphere upstairs is cozy and relaxed, making it a great spot to unwind after a busy day. Service was friendly and attentive, and I appreciated the laid-back vibe. I’d definitely come back for another round, whether it’s for a casual meal or to catch up with friends.

Salt & Straw
Knitting and ice cream, need I say more? This spot is a dream combo for any maker with a sweet tooth. Inside, you’ll find an ever-changing menu of creative, small-batch ice cream flavors that are as delicious as they are unique. Just around the corner, there’s a cozy little fire pit area — perfect for gathering with friends or enjoying some solo knitting time while staying warm. There are also a few tables off to the side if you prefer a quieter spot to spread out your yarn and needles. Whether you’re craving a treat or just want a chill place to knit, Salt & Straw hits the spot every time.
