Budget Friendly PTK: Local Library or Park

Life gets rough, if you are looking for a way to get out of your house to knit in public without having to spend any money you could check out a local library or park depending on your mood and comfort level.

Libraries are generally air conditioned and quiet. They have tables and relaxed seating available. I believe some may also have wi-fi but for security reasons I opt to use my own hot spot instead. If you use a tablet for your pattern, you could always make sure that it’s downloaded locally so that you can remain offline at the library if security is important to you. They will also have a bathroom that is guaranteed better than a public park’s bathroom. A couple of my local libraries also have outdoor patio type areas that may also fit your needs for those that want the library vibes but also be outside.

Public parks are great. I’m not an outdoorsy person but I do like sitting outside at a park knitting in the fresh air. I have my own camping chair (though I never go camping) that I bought ~2010 for my first World Wide Knit in Public Day. I also bought an umbrella clamp that has two clamps so that I can clamp one end to my chair or my Anker Solix C300 depending on where I’m sitting, while the other side holds my umbrella. Adjustability is key and I can control the way each of the clamps is angled to make it work for me. I like that everything is ‘sold separately’ because umbrellas break, my chair may break, etc. I didn’t want something that was one-time use if the umbrella or chair breaks. I also sometimes find a picnic table to sit at and don’t need to bring my chair so being able to clip the umbrella to my Anker Solix C300 is also a nice perk since I generally use my solar panel to charge it when I go to the park.
